Darts in 서울

Log onto www.edarts.kr. and then click on rankings.  You see the top 300+ players shooting all over Korea.  The top seed players are in Division 1, A-Rankings.  It's unbelievable to see these guys shoot.  They rarely miss, of course.  Their shot sequence is so fast.  It's like  they shoot from instinct, 1-2-3 bam!

Last night, John and I explored dart bars in Seoul.  We go to 홍대.  We meet his friend, Paul who is an AA13 shooter, and was once the number 1 player in Korea.  He knows all the shooters and is greeted at the door with much respect.  He's also an alcoholic shooter.  We pounded some beer last night.

The first bar we go to was a joint called Shooters.  We go into the basement and see 5 Phoenix dart boards, a dart supply store, and shooters.  Everything is painted black, which helps to focus on the boards.  I buy new shafts and some heart-shaped strawberry flights for Nizi.  We play a game and soon get restless for some more seasoning.

The second bar we venture off to was called Keepsake.  The bar was posh, and the moment we walked in I smell perfume.  Broads were everywhere- girls sporting early Spring cocktail slits and their boyfriends in tow.  Paul is a fast walker, and we race to the back to snag an open board.  Unlike Shooters Bar, this place was loud.  It took a while to get focused while shooting.  But then, I finally see Paul really shoot.  It's unreal the speed and accuracy this guy has.  People are turning their heads to watch us play.  Yeah, we brought our own darts, but it was surely a show to watch.  Not so much for John and I, although we held our own... but for Paul, geez the guy is an explosion of shots all hitting the tip of a needle.

The third bar we explore was the climax of the night.  The moment you walk into Bar 501, your perspective for darts changes forever.  This was the grand palace of darts.  Vaulted ceilings, 20 plus dart machines, and then the two Phoenix Dart boards placed on center stage with a huge LCD to show scores.  It was dart mania in this place.  This was where I finally saw great shooters play.  1-2-3 bam, bullseye after bulls, triple and triple, closed... There was no room for error with these shooters.  John and I enjoy a game together on a corner spot.  The good thing about this place, was that smoking was prohibited in the carpeted dart area.

Lastly, we go to one last bar which I cannot remember the name of because I was drunken at this point.  John and Paul continue to shoot, and I go outside to vomit.  An idea came into my mind while I was bent over--- this lifestyle of shooting darts has not been healthy for me.  I'm a drunk shooter...  It's late night.  The only thing I remember about the last bar was that it was a tiki bar, two old school phoenix dart boards and .. that was it.

Today my body was in complete disarray.  I just rested and watched movies.  Cooked dinner, and now feeling a bit lonely.  Tried to call some friends in NY and FL, but nobody home.

I like shooting darts~  It's a hobby.  I take it seriously, though because I like winning and shooting a damn good game.  Last night was important to see, and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to play with A-Shooters.  I learned a few things for my own game, especially for 501, hat tricks, and form.  I have about 5 million more shots before I can hit what I'm aiming for consistently.  But it's okay.  놀자~~ It's fun!  Here is my ranking for now-  Zelda

Judgement~~~

People have their own individual worlds... really.  From their first breath to taking milk from their mothers, to circles of friends and beliefs under the stars..on their knees.. we create it.
The moment we mention reality in a conversation~ it becomes mundane- at least for me.  It's a collegiate topic in many ways.  I suppose the older we become, bills and priorities become important.  Easy for me to say without a family and child.  Above all this, while walking home tonight ... a great night of darts... I realized that judging actions is well beyond my little world.  Very well beyond it.  The competition ends here~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~... I'm sick of it.............................

We may rule the streets tonight.......
Be my friend, first~~~
So will I..................................................

We may rule the streets tonight.......

Phoenix dart tournament~

Team Snapshot came in an okay third place.  It's very good.  Our nemesis came in first.  They shot in another bracket.  In our bracket we scrapped our way to the top.  Which was interesting.  The last game, determining first rank was ours, but we came short.  Lesson learned.  It's a good feeling to know that we were the dominant players.  Very well.

Off to the next round of competition in about two weeks.  There is expectation for Team Snapshot to bring something home.  Nizi was happy today.  So was I.  Just between you and I, though... there was whiskey involved.  And now, after this week I have finally cleaned the apartment.  What a taxing week on the mind and body.  Sweat drips from my brow from wiping the floors.  Candles line the apartment...  Rest now, because time doesn't stop for the timid.  Many people asked about my condition and I suppose my face does look a bit beaten' up, ha...

But you know what?... we won tonight, yes we did.

I'm drunken

What a day.  The Buddha would say try to walk in the middle path... but tonight was satisfying in THAT~ the week was taxing with the practice n' all..  Bar sports call on temptations that sooner or later you can only watch from a dstance...  really.  Trying to gain back confidence in education, the Community College was enough to say that mud wrestling can earn enough money to pay rent.

Tonight, my brother saw me shoot darts.  He's not very good with words.  He boxes in skill that he doesn't he himself doesn't excel in.  You don't need a pencil to draw on the sand.  It's that simple to rock n' roll.
It's hard to understand when the listener doesn't hear.  When the bar claps at a great shot that he tries to box it in.  It makes me want to cry, because you can't buy darts to shoot at it.  Only the genius will shoot at it a few times to know... who knows.

I'm drunken.  In Korea, the sun will rise soon, and coffee will know last nights memory.

Strum the winds hair, so delicate to the chill of sorrow.
Rose petals tremble.
Tears cuts the blade in half halves.
Welcome to the hall of mirrors, where a million parts per faces see want they want to see..

An eye lash floats into oblivion.
Oblivion knows it.
And an echos canyon greets the dawn.

So when it comes down to triples~
say what comes first~
Say how foolish I've been..
Say what you see, something that I might agree with and yet,
can't and will never see.

I'm so tired.
take this knife away from my curved hands.
Veins are triggered by happy hands,
and these hands want to relinquish palms northbound,
to a new day.
Yes,  a new day, good night.

This is what's going to happen~~

This is what's going to happen:

My mother is going to get her test results on June 18th, but before then I'm going to be a little turd.  My living space is, shall we say artistically in disarray.  The old saying about cleanliness in my mid-20's was that, as long as the center table stays clean all else is fine.  That was one of the challenges living in those cute little Brooklyn Brownstone apartments.  It was like a Salvation Army Store, every one of them had years of wear and tear, a bit of grit, and dust was always going to be there... how can I say this?  One of the only things symmetrical about it was the first shaving stroke, the cat purring on the bookshelf, and then boarding the B38 bus at exactly 5:32AM  The cheese was always so sweet at the end.

What about now?  I used to write letters, still do but not as often, to my mother.  I'd send one's written in abstract calligraphy strokes about life in NY, Brooklyn and Hyde Park.  You'd think it was written by a 13th Century monk copying the bible.  The message was always simple.  But even then, she knew that I never liked living in Florida.  I was never going to go back.  She knows this.

I was driving with my brother one night.  The damn GPS sputtering out directions in 한국어- Seoul dong is so huge.  Heading due north towards Namsan Seoul tower, he was struck by the glamor of the city lights.  I thought of the humdrum of the Q-train at the peak of the Manhattan overpass.  Midnight Cityscapes makes an imprint.  And although there's a new buzzword called light pollution, it still fascinates the child within us all.  Meanwhile, I mention the only thing that keeps our lifestyle flexible is the fact that we don't have a child.  We talk about ma's condition and the things we can do to help, financially.  It's not easy talking to him about how she feels right now, because everything I say he immediately offers a quick solution.  That's the way he is...

To my dear friends:
Big daddy B is going to have a baby next month.
Jilly J just went through a divorce.
Strike Mike is in the square of NYC filling his slide with bills and then...

I still think about L at times...  she's gone Don, k?

It's going to rain the next few days.  My legs have developed a muscle vein that you can see run from the lower part of my calf up to my front thigh.  Muscle veins are all over my body, and hidden muscles are springing up.  These veins are my tattoos.  I'm a walking map in the shower.  I'm dodging jabs in the mirror, and I'm feeling stronger than I ever have, physically.  I've learned to like squatting.  I hold the world on my shoulders and more, and with an exhale a burst of power erupts from God knows where.

I'm looking for love.  I don't know how much longer I can take being alone and not doing what I want to do.

So this is what's going to happen~~  This is a dip.  Even if mom is diagnosed with MS she is going to live with people that love her.  It's more important that she knows you are happy, and it would only be more of a burden on her if she knows that she is a burden on you.  You know that she has always been an independent woman- defiant.  She earned money while attending the Teaching University in Legaspi, Philippines selling U.S. goods.  She's industrious, quick, and beautiful.  She's old now.  She's slowly becoming debilitated and this is hard to accept... accept it.

Dear blue yonder~

Dart game is doing alright~~   didn't shoot well tonight, but still have time to practice... and practice.

Students have a speaking test next next week~  I made the test.  So they are going to be prepared.

Mother isn't doing well and the family has to make some major shifting in their lifestyle.  This is giving me stress, because everyone is saying, 'everything is going to be alright.'  I'm sad, so sad about this because mom might not be able to walk in a few years.  They run a business that is labor intensive.  She offered the Day Care business to my brother and I.  I don't know how to put it in words really.

I need to focus on the bullseye in the tournament, so I better drink some whiskeys:

I like my partner Nizi, and she doesn't like me in the same way.  She is a real 'big fish' and I just don't think I have the confidence to snag her.  I'm a loser, I'm a loser, that is what I say but I want to win!  How does a man have so much confidence in themselves?  I'm up and down with mine, argh.  I haven't tried to serenade a lady in a long time.  My heart is going to break, the process has started... fuck I hate this feeling.  Can't let it get in the way of the tournament.  BUT IT HAS<<<<<< damn it!!

I'm all over the place in my mind right now.  I've been shopping for clothes lately and working out adoring myself in the mirror.  Impressed with my shoulder project.  If I was a girl that didn't work out, I'd have flabby triceps,  not in a major way though.  It's a gene that some people get, although my bone frame is small.  So I have to work out extra hard to keep my triceps and hind shoulders tight.

What am I saying...  things are going on in my life, mainly with my mother and...
This summer, I'm seriously thinking about visiting her.

Dear God,  I pray for her well being.  Please motivate dad to help her and  guide him to make the right decisions.  Let him read more about her condition so that he can make better decisions about their future together.  I pray for my own courage, may it spring open to help anyone in need.  Please comfort ma in this time of uncertainty.  Let her sleep well at night so that she can have a clear mind every morning.  Comfort her in this time of need dear God...  please~

Woke up late~

What the hell was I doing out late last night?
I'll tell ya.  Shooting darts and drinking boos.  So, after a few beers, a tequila sunrise, a shot of whiskey, and a few dozen or so dart games, I finally ate late night 라면 김밥 which I consider the fast food of Korea.  Anyways, I didn't go to sleep until 4:30am.  Jolted by some saving grace instinct, I realized I had exactly 10 minutes before the first bell.

While sprinting on my bicycle, I answer the phone midway uphill, panting and yelling that I'll be there in a jiffy.  I was a minute late, and students were still walking in getting settled.  I sensed a tinge of alcohol lingering in my nose.  My eyes were slightly blood shot.  So, I decided to wear my glasses.  The students have never seen me with them on because I don't need glasses, for one thing.  Secondly, I bought them to change up the appearance- which is another story.  When class started, the unexpected occurred.  I ended up using the board like an actual teacher, instead of relying on the power point.  Students were contributing ideas and together we were making mind maps.  It was awesome!

After school, I headed to the gym and worked off all of last nights alcohol.  It felt great and I made sure to really burn specific points in my back- particularly the central and upper parts.  My face muscles even had a work out.  I walked outta' there as sober as a baby taking their first breath.

And now, I sit staring at this monitor scatter brained...

Sour eagle...

Phoenix Dart Tournament and mother's brain

Tomorrow is sign up day for the Phoenix Dart Tournament.  Dart players from all over Korea compete for a jackpot and of course pride in being the best in their division.  My partner and I shoot in Division B- I'm a B7 and she is a B5, but we shoot about the same when all is in stroke.  I'm 'Zelda' and she is 'Nizi'.  You get all the quirky nicknames in darts which appear when you swipe your online card before a match.  It's like RPG nicknames.

We have to practice more, but the main thing is that this year my partner is fearless.  She's a bartender at a placed called New York City Bar.  We rock n' roll!우리는 대박 이예요.
갈때까지  가보자 or let's see how far we can go *^.^*

On 'Bar Sports':
These games are normally accompanied with beer, elixirs, cocktails, stogies, shooters, gamblers, sidewinders, swindlers, you name it.  I suppose the mentality is you either make it/break it or take the red-eye bus home.  Choose which way, cause it's the bottom of the boat both ways as it was in the movie, Titanic.  You show what you can do, whether it be a balancing ballerina or a hairy arm wrestler pounding a wrist on metal and ice.  I'm the kid that makes snappy jukebox selections.  Have a beer with me and let's play.

My mother might have Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  Her MRI results show this, but needs to get a diagnosis from a neurologist.  She is a spunky lady that needs to be always on the move.  She doesn't know, ..never knew just how to relax.  I'm sad about this.  She already walks with a limp because of her hip problem.  When I was in middle school, I'd massage her feet because she had terrible cramps on her left foot.  Her foot would contort~ the thumb toe would point up while the others would face south.  I have her genes, and we are very sensitive to the world.  My dad isn't very sensitive and doesn't help with simple things that'd make a difference with her comfort, such as doing the grocery shopping-- I don't know...  He's not the kind of person to research MS and make preventive changes to their lifestyle.  It makes me want to cry~

It's late here.  Mom and dad have chosen a path to expand their business~  Their life is to always move and work.  It's a double edge and it's not easy.

Please God, let mom's blood brain barrier stop T-cells from entering her brain.
You've saved her once with the brain tumor,
...let mom and dad have a great picnic together.

Not one real thought~

"Wake up already!"
Seeing the sunrise was the last memory before snoozing.  Brushed twice, but the smell of whiskey and bar smoke lined the nostrils.  Galavanted around 산본 until the people left looked like zombies, or was I one, don't know.  Always on an edge between what's healthy and unhealthy.

Woke up and ate the trinity breakfast.  Needed to sweat last night's alcohol.  Off to the gym.  The smell of  toxins leaving your body is different for everyone.  Mine takes on a metallic scent.  The guys in the shower room shifting in circular patterns around the shower head.  I clean my balls three times.  My penis sways to the motion.  Finally the day has started, and it's half past four.

Not one real thought had entered my mind today except for shopping.   So, I ride my bike to the red light district for the second hand stores.  The area looks completely different when the sun is up.  My clothes dealer knows me, but today the daughter was the only one there.  She's ready for making babies~ a real cute one.  Heart-shaped face with a tight body and perky breasts.  I find three nice shirts.  Even the clothes hangers are all different.  Behind her I spot a red ball cap.  The place smells like half washed clothes, she smells like soap.  빨간색 주세요.   She hands it to me and we grin.  I pay her the cash and I can feel a slight erection coming, geez.  She lets me have the hat for free.

Off to 범개역.  The area is teaming with shoppers and couples enjoying the warm weather.  Still no real thought enters my head.  I allow myself to just walk vulnerable to all marketing persuasions.  The Korean Times stuck in my armpit makes my walk a bit off-centered.  The Mexican restaurant should be open now.
I start with a yummy mushroom soup that has exactly four thumb-sized croutons.  For every third or fourth sip, I look to the crosswords.  SOB, this thing is kicking my butt.  If it wasn't for the soup, I'd be cursing at the author every third or fourth clue.  Anyways, I go to town on the chicken chimichanga.  Horay for cheeze and sour cream!  I read an article about guns which had diamonds and gold embedded in them by gang lords in Mexico.  The waitress has similar tattoo designs on her shoulder.

More shopping, and am happy to say that I'm geared up for spring and summer.  Still need one more pair of paints.  I wanted to rip out the managers trachea from talking so much about this and that.  I don't know that much Korean, but yet he insisted on trying to make friendly relations.  He touched my lower back, and I instantly tap his jaw with my two front knuckles.  What's the bill, man..  I hate going to these stores sometimes, you get harassed.  That's why I like the second hand stores, which are hard to find here.  I mean, who the hell shops for clothes in the red light district, except for whores, pimps, migrant laborers, and the perverts.
A wild wild world we live in.

Battery cells drip with sweat~

Getting serious with learning Korean~  hacking up words, but at least there's communication.  Oh, everyday it's difficult being alone, argggh~~~   I can only understand words and phrases related to food.  There is a long way to go and frankly, my confidence battery is constantly needing recharging.  I resemble a 'monkey' in this country, with veiny arms and shoulders.  What would I do without the gym, I swear!  A wrinkle is setting on my brow and I wonder~  where is home, where is it?

I've been dating~ Had some interesting and fun times... all surface talk because that's the extent of the language.  It's funny, really.  You learn the lingo by dating and screwing around, urgh...

Spring, the joy of this season!  Oh the joy of warmth!

Pork ribs are defrosting in the fridge.  My legs are tight.  The skip rope whips around my torso.  The speed resembles a vortex~ I create a bubble world.  It's fun to jump and jump again and again... in rhythm to the best of K-pop, huh.  No sweat.  No pain~

Pain, where are you?  Not this resistance.  A dull knife twists and twists~
I need you.  Monkey do.
No dream to chase- the kite has flown away.  Where did it go?

Get it together because come June you have to teach all 40 students.  You'll be running solo with all the learning levels- high and low comprehension.  You got this~  but prepare your self, K? champ...
